I still cannot believe what I'm about to say. By the time you are listening to this episode My app, Inner Compass, will officially be out in the world. I really can't quite believe I'm saying that, because for years I have been helping people understand the energy: [00:01:00] energy of time, of days, of months, of years, of names, of businesses, of relationships.
And one of the things that I have learned over and over again is that energy leaves clues, breadcrumbs. We see it in patterns, we see it in timing, we see it in cycles. And now with Inner Compass, thousands of people, and soon to be millions, are beginning to explore those patterns for themselves. If you're like, "Wait, Jess, what?
An app? What are you talking about?" What are you waiting for? Go to the show notes. Get the Inner Compass app on Apple, on Google, wherever it is you get your apps. Download it. Because, you know, what is a compass, if not a tool that helps us understand where we are, where we've been, and where we're headed? And that's actually a beautiful segue into the topic that I wanted to talk about today, which is locations, places, and the energy of that, and how you can explore and work with this location energy.
So of course, like always, I'm gonna ask a question and [00:03:00] start with a curiosity. Have you ever noticed that some places or locations change you, have a real impact of you? And not only because of what might have happened there, but because of who you became while you were there. And you know, just myself, I've lived in Pennsylvania, Washington DC, Florida, British Columbia.
I've traveled all over the world. I spent years living and working on cruise ships. And so the more attention I pay- To the energy of the different locations and who I am and who I become in all of those places, the more convinced I become of the fact that places are not neutral. Locations are not neutral.
You've felt this. Some places hold us, some places challenge us . We go to places, locations, and [00:04:00] they help heal us. Some places expand us. And yes, some places are determined to transform us. Now, you may have heard of astrocartography, and before I go any further, I want to say that I think astrocartography is fascinating, and I know many people who absolutely love it.
For anyone who is not familiar with it, astrocartography is a branch of astrology that maps your birth chart onto the globe, and the basic premise or idea is that different locations activate different parts of your chart, which means that certain places may be more supportive for career or relationships, creativity family life, personal growth, visibility, all of the things.
But I've always felt a little limited by it, and you know me, I don't believe in limitations. So I'm gonna share with you just why perhaps I feel limited by that specific [00:05:00] modality, and then how we can expand the energy of locations so it's really accessible to everyone. Okay. Here's the thing. My astrology chart is incredibly concentrated.
Like, whenever I've had anyone run my chart, they run it, and they're like, "Shoot, I don't think I got your birthday right, your time of birth. Can you tell me again?" And I know what's happening. I know they see a lot of empty space and just all of my energy in one spot. And I always joke with them that my energy is definitely less like tea and more like very strong black coffee.
It isn't spread out. It isn't what a typical chart looks like. It's very concentrated. So according to my astrocartography chart, many, if not all, of my supportive lines are in one part of the world, and it's a part of the world [00:06:00] that I have absolutely no desire to move, let alone visit. It's just not happening.
And so it's funny there are literally no energy activations near me at all according to astrocartography. And the other is a very lived experience and it's in the Caribbean. So I spent years living and working on board a cruise ship and traveling amongst all of these tiny islands in the Caribbean And some of them are separated by only a few miles.
But according to astrocartography, many of them fall within essentially the same energetic lines. But anyone who has spent time in the Caribbean knows that's not how it feels at all. Every island has its own personality, like its literal, its own rhythm, its own pace, its own culture, its own feeling, and the people who live there will tell you that, and I will also tell you that, having visited.
Even though astrocartography would tell you [00:07:00] that visiting or, or living on these islands would create the same effect, I can tell you with absolute lived certainty that that is not the case. And so I really started to explore, okay what could be a different question that I ask here? What if I'm asking the wrong question?
Because astrocartography is primarily asking what a place can do for you. And then when I realized that, I was like, "Aha, that's why it doesn't land for me," because I'm more interested in the relationship, like the reciprocity, right? I'm very much interested in what happens when two energetic signatures meet because that's how I look at energy.
It's not what can I do for you or what you can do for me, right? It's, how we interact. And if we just look at people for a second, and because think this is something that everyone can relate to, I don't believe that any person is inherently good or bad for us, right? We are [00:08:00] constantly entering into energetic relationships, and therefore some people amplify our courage, some people amplify our ambition or our frustration.
You know, some people teach us patience, others teach us boundaries. Some people challenge us, some people comfort us, right? Some people completely change the trajectory of our lives. And, you know, why wouldn't the same be true of places or locations? Think about it. Countries are born, cities are founded, right?
Provinces are established, businesses begin, homes are built. Every one of those moments creates an energetic imprint. It's their birth date. And so every one of those beginnings establishes a pattern. And so we don't exclude locations in my world because places have personalities. They have strengths.
They have lessons. They have gifts. They have [00:09:00] cycles. They have contracts. Each location also has an energy grid, just like each one of us does. And so when our energy begins interacting with the energy of a place, this is what I'm interested in. Because I know you know this, two people can move to the exact same city and have completely different experiences.
One person falls in love. Another person builds a business. One person decides to leave. The place itself isn't necessarily different. Still has the same birth date, but the relationship with different people is different. And so, you know, let's just throw out a question that I get a lot when people come to me and work with me.
They're at a point where they're choosing maybe where to move to next. So, New York, Vancouver, Nashville, Santa Fe, whatever it is that you're contemplating. Most people would [00:10:00] compare the logistical things, right? Taxes, housing prices weather, job opportunities, cost of living, schools, sure.
And all of that matters, but what if we add another layer? What if we looked at the energy of each place? And more specifically, what if we asked what each location was inviting out of you? Because then we will see that one place will amplify your ambition, your momentum, your expansion, while another place might emphasize your creativity or community or expression.
And another place might, you know, encourage healing or reflection, a slower pace of life. And as you hear me say this, you know, you are gonna hear and understand that none of these things or places are better than the other. They're simply different invitations, right? And so then your energy enters the picture.
And creates a relationship. And then it can kinda be like a bit like dating, [00:11:00] right? We don't point to one person and declare that they are objectively the best person on the planet. No. We ask "Oh, am I compatible with this person?" What is the soul contract? And places work the same way, right? And I know you know this.
You can't explain it, but some places just call to you. You might never have been there before. You don't know anyone there. You don't necessarily have a reason, but something at the, about that place feels familiar. Or perhaps you've had the opposite experience, right? You arrive somewhere that everyone else seems to love, and all you can think is like, "Oh, wow, I don't think this place is for me."
Listen, I don't think that's strange at all. That is information. And it's the same about the house or the home or the apartment or the condo that you live in, right? Everything carries energy, and When we really lean into this, we can play with this energy and use our inner compass [00:12:00] to figure out our next step.
So let, let's just put this into an example, 'cause I hear many of you saying, "Okay well how does this work?" Okay, I'll use myself as an example just for a few. So I was born and grew up in Pennsylvania, and Pennsylvania's birthday is December 12th, 1787, which makes it a ruling number 11. In the energy grid, Pennsylvania has the same arrow of frustration that I do.
It's missing the four, five, and six, and it's also missing the arrow of the intellect. Its contract is the six of clubs. And I won't do a whole chart analysis of my energy and Pennsylvania, but I can actually know and see both feeling enerjectively... but also objectively when I look at the charts see why I choose not to live there, and why I actually left when I was 17 to go to university.
And whereas [00:13:00] others in my family or friends that I had growing up chose to stay there and still live there. So I just said, okay, so at age 17 I moved to Washington, DC. So Washington DC, it has a ruling number four. And what I wanna share with you here, which makes total sense to me, it has the arrow of hypersensitivity.
It's missing the two, five, and the eight. I am missing the two, five, and the eight, and that is the numbers across the emotional plane. So if you were to look at my energetic grid, I have no numbers across my heart. And no, this does not mean I have no heart. This means that I am completely wide open. I have no boundaries around my heart.
And so when I went to Washington DC, and I lived in a place that also had the same as I, no boundaries, my Spidey senses were on fire. [00:14:00] I really, although I didn't... Here's, this is a story I'll probably tell on another podcast. But I had so many experiences there where I was so connected, and I could see what was happening to people before it actually happened.
I experienced so many premonitions, predictions and all of it at that time in my life when I was ages 17 to 21 I didn't quite understand what was happening, and it did feel overwhelming. And yet, looking back, I understand that that place truly activated that in me. Okay? Now, if I go to here in British Columbia Canada, where I live now I love this energy because its birth date holds the eight and the eight of clubs, and the eight of clubs is my moon card, which is a beautifully supportive energy in your chart.
Now, if I think of the places that [00:15:00] I've lived, and this makes total sense, I moved here, and I lived in Vancouver, and now I live in North Vancouver, and no, North Vancouver is not just north of Vancouver, although it is. It is a different city. It is a different district, and so therefore it has a different energy, and I just...
I think the details might bore you a little bit, if I'm honest, because it really speaks to my chart and obviously why our move to North Vancouver has just been so expansive and beautiful in so many ways. But I can say that each of these places that I described changed me, and not because they were good or bad.
There's not a right number or a wrong number. It doesn't even have to be the same as you. they were simply inviting different parts of me to emerge, and so that is the real question. Like, when people come to me and we're talking about moving, it's not like, "Where should I live?" And I don't even like the question which place is best.
The better [00:16:00] question is who am I becoming here, and does this location invite that out? Because I don't think that we are simply choosing places. Places are choosing us, right? These are agreements or invitations or relationships, and those moments when we suddenly realize that we leave a place different than when we arrived, that is why certain places stay with us even when we're not living there, and that's the real magic of home, right?
I believe. Because it's asking the conversation, the contract between you and a place, is it complete or not? And, you know, you've probably heard the saying when we talk about friends, like for a reason, for a season, or a lifetime, right? And so, of course, when people come to me, we can look at your life chart and say, "Okay what relationship do you have with certain [00:17:00] locations?"
And it could be for like a long-term move. But also I see quite frequently in people's charts maybe there is an energy calling you just in a season of your life or a certain aspect of your year, right? Maybe a place is inviting you, not because you're meant to stay there, but because you are going to meet your partner there, I can give you so many client examples where even people have come to me and said, "Okay I'm gonna do this and this and this here." And I'm like, "Ooh, I feel red tape around that location. I don't actually feel it's going to be there." And that has come to fruition. You know, people wanting to move to a place, and I can see that an energy of transformation and expansion is there.
And knowing that they want growth and expansion, yes, they've moved there, but then their life has shifted and changed so much because of it, right? So-
what can I leave you with [00:18:00] here? You, you know me, I always like to bring, you know, the energy into the tangible. And so I think I'll just leave you with some questions. You could think about the place you are living right now, or maybe if you are considering a move. You can ask the questions of like, "What qualities does this place that I'm living now amplify in me?
What qualities am I being asked to develop here? What am I contributing to this place?" Remember, it's not just what a location can do for you, it's how you are in relationship with the location, with the energy. "Why was I drawn here in the first place? Does that contract feel complete? Why do I keep returning?"
If I'm thinking of moving "What chapter of my life is this place supporting right now? Is there a chapter ending?" Because I don't think we accidentally end up anywhere, and I, and I don't also mean that every detail is predestined, no. Because I believe 100% in [00:19:00] free will. But I do think that places are invitations, and sometimes we go somewhere because we're meant to build something.
Sometimes we choose a place because we're going to learn something. Sometimes we're in a location to receive. Sometimes we are in a location to give And sometimes I feel we are placed in certain locations to remember a part of ourselves that we forgot existed, and that specific energy of the location awakens it for us, right?
Because our energy is always with us. But just like a volcano, it's not always erupting all the time. Sometime is-- Sometimes it is dormant. And when we think about locations sometimes we go to a location just so we could activate that dormant energy, and we don't even need to live or stay there for a long time for that [00:20:00] energetic transformation and transfusion to happen.
And so I'd love for you to explore this in your life and just think back to the places that you've been, maybe the places that you dream of either visiting or living, and really look at it. Again, not just what that location can do for you, but what relationship, what contract do you have with that location?
And how can it support you? And what are you meant to give in the relationship? You know, what I love so much about my work is it's all based on energy, and like I said in the beginning, the relationship of energy. So when two energies come together, they come together, and they provide a gift, and each one of the energies receives and gives something different.
And when you can know that about your [00:21:00] chart I feel the possibilities are truly endless. So a few invitations here outside of figuring out where you live, what the energy is. Reach out to me on Instagram. Let me know. Let me know what you found out and how it feels for you. Get into Inner Compass. There is also the Inner Compass VIP Circle, where we can go into questions like that.
You have live access to me where you can come and say, "Hey, Jess, I'm thinking about moving here. what is the energy of this location?" Right? Boom. Done. We've got it. And really, the more you interact and call in your inner compass, the more I know that you will never feel lost because you will always be with you, you will always have your compass with you, and that's what I know that this app can really [00:22:00] help you feel confident with and cultivate.
