What if the purpose of a dream isn’t simply for it to come true?

In this episode, I’m sharing a realization that brought me to tears the moment it landed: I don’t want all of my dreams to come true. Because if every dream I could ever imagine came true, what would be left to dream about?

I explore the difference between dreams and goals, why the space between where you are and what you can imagine might actually be where the magic lives, and why some dreams are meant to change, disappear, or simply lead us somewhere we never expected to go.

Because dreams aren’t only destinations. They expand our relationship with possibility. They move us toward new vantage points where we can see things we weren’t capable of imagining before.

And maybe a beautiful life isn’t one where we eventually check every box. Maybe it’s one where every box we check reveals another part of the map.

✨ Takeaways

  • The purpose of a dream may not simply be for it to come true. Dreams keep us in relationship with possibility.
  • The gap between where you are and where you dream of being isn’t necessarily something you need to collapse. That space can create desire, curiosity, creativity, anticipation, and movement.
  • Goals and dreams are different. A goal wants completion. A dream wants expansion.
  • Dreams can act like horizons. They give us direction without requiring arrival.
  • There are dreams available to your future self that you genuinely cannot imagine from where you’re standing today.
  • Every new experience gives you a different vantage point from which to dream again.
  • Some dreams aren’t supposed to come true exactly as you imagined them. Some change shape, disappear, or reveal what you actually wanted all along.
  • A dream that doesn’t happen hasn’t necessarily failed. It may have done its job by getting you moving somewhere new.
  • Gratitude and desire are not opposites. You can deeply love the life you have and still imagine more.
  • Wanting more doesn’t have to mean your current life isn’t enough. It can mean there is still more of you that wants to be expressed.
  • We often kill dreams by asking practical questions too early. Sometimes the practice is simply allowing yourself to think, “Wouldn’t that be incredible?”
  • You don’t need every dream to become a plan. Some dreams are allowed to stay dreams for a while.
  • The dreams that come true can introduce you to dreams you didn’t even know you had.
